Journaling: Getting to Know Yourself

  • Loft Literary Center 1011 Washington Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55415 United States (map)

Real-life and fiction are populated with kids who write diaries or journals—from Anne Frank to "Wimpy Kid" Greg Heffley. Do you long to join their ranks, spilling out your secrets, hopes, and dreams—but have instant brain freeze when faced with the blank page? Or, perhaps you currently keep a diary but are looking for ways to shake up your writing? If you are interested in writing about your life, this class is for you!

You will learn new creative ways to record your deepest thoughts and tell the stories of your life. You will be introduced to a dozen easy journaling techniques that will take you beyond the blank page to crazy fun and thoughtful insights in short order. (Some techniques take only a few minutes!)

Much of this class is hand-on writing, and in the spirit of the sacred relationship between diarist and diary, sharing is optional. By the end of class, you will have a journal toolkit full of useful prompts and exercises that you can use again and again to mine the depths of your life.
